Chapter 14: Borrowing S292

The Doctor nodded his head.

‘So, was it delicious?’

Lu Xiao cracked his knuckles and shook his head.

‘It was not delicious at all!’

‘The taste was utterly revolting!’

‘It was just like an old woman's sock, sour and smelly!’

The Doctor's mouth twitched.

‘Your description paints a vivid picture!’

‘Do all strange creatures taste the same?’

Lu Xiao immediately corrected him.

‘I will correct you once more, he isn't what you would call a strange creature!’

‘Real strange creatures possess a truly exquisite flavour! I have had the privilege of tasting one and the flavour lingered in my mouth!’

‘Most of the time, I eat inferior lifeforms for survival!’

The Doctor bent down to pick up a piece of bloody flesh, about to stuff it into his mouth.

The prison doctor's voice came from the side.

‘Doctor, I wouldn't advise you to try it!’

The Doctor paused, turning to the prison doctor with a doubtful look.

‘Why?’

The prison doctor continued his task without interruption.

‘Because you might not be able to digest it! Or you might even contract some unknown curse!’

Upon knowing that it might contain curses, the Doctor finally set down the piece of flesh.

‘That is too regrettable!’

He wiped the blood from his fingers on his white coat.

‘Will I have the opportunity to sample the flavours of these strange creatures the next time?’

Lu Xiao nodded his head, a smile spreading across his face.

‘Of course, you can! Doctor!’

The Doctor gestured towards the neatly arranged chunks of meat on the floor.

‘May I take these away? They hold considerable research value!’

At that sentence, Lu Xiao's expression became slightly troubled.

He rubbed his stomach.

‘It's possible, it's possible! But I am terribly hungry right now!’

The Doctor tilted his head, looking puzzled.

‘Isn't there an endless supply of food in the containment room? Or are you simply not interested in that sort of food?’

Lu Xiao suddenly remembered the button that dispensed food.

‘My apologies! Hunger has clouded my judgement! I had completely forgotten about that thing!’

With that, he turned to leave and return to his containment room.

Slick, however, piped up timidly.

‘There's food here too!’

He extended a finger, pointing towards the button on the wall.

Lu Xiao glanced over, his eyes lighting up.

‘Well then, I will be off to enjoy my feast!’

He strode towards the wall-mounted button.

His fingers tapped the button in a frantic manner.

Moments later, upon seeing the mountain of food piled up, the Doctor adjusted his monocle.

‘Won't he get indigestion from eating so much?’

He directed this remark to the prison doctor.

Without looking up, the prison doctor explained.

‘His digestive capacity is massive. In other words, his body requires substantial energy intake to sustain itself!’

Recalling Lu Xiao's terrifying cellular metabolism, the Doctor instantly understood.

‘So that's it!’

Soon, the prison doctor had meticulously stitched together Dart's shattered internal organs, piece by piece.

He extended a hand, beckoning towards Lu Xiao, who was still eating.

‘My friend, I need your assistance!’

Lu Xiao, clutching a chicken drumstick bone in his mouth, made his way over.

‘ I am at your service!’

The prison doctor extended a finger, lightly tracing a slash across Lu Xiao's arm.

A small incision instantly appeared, a drop of crimson blood seeping forth.

The doctor caught the drop between his fingertips before dripping it into Dart's abdominal cavity.

He then meticulously sutured the wound, closing it.

The Doctor watched the scene without comment.

Lu Xiao, however, was intrigued.

‘Isn't my blood containing a curse?’

The prison doctor rose, first adjusting his black robe, then returning his tools to the medical kit before speaking.

‘A single drop of blood can only contain a limited curse. Yet that faint cursed power is sufficient for his recovery!’

Upon hearing the prison doctor's words, the Doctor instantly conceived an idea.

‘Mr Prison Doctor, if what you say is true, then wouldn't S292's blood be capable of healing any injury?’

The prison doctor nodded his head. He paid no heed to the Doctor interrupting their conversation, perhaps this was simply the tacit understanding between researchers.

‘Theoretically speaking, that is correct!’

‘But the patient's subsequent clinical response will be the decisive factor!’

‘After all, this is my first attempt at such a method!’

‘His blood might induce uncontrollable mutations in the patient!’

He gestured towards Dart lying on the floor.

‘Let's wish him the best of luck!’

The Doctor nodded his head, yet the gaze he cast upon Lu Xiao had changed.

That look... was akin to staring at a treasure trove.

Without a doubt, Lu Xiao was now his treasured boy.

…………

Upon returning to his office, the Doctor first dismissed all the staff.

Only then did he retrieve a communicator.

‘Beep!’

The connection was established instantly, as if the recipient had been waiting.

‘Has the investigation into the task force been completed?’

From the communicator, an authoritative male voice came out.

The Doctor adjusted his monocle.

‘The investigation is completed!’

The voice on the other end spoke again.

‘Very good. This should buy us some time!’

The Doctor murmured softly.

‘Sir, the findings reveal an unexpected complication!’

There was a pause of several seconds on the other end.

‘What's the problem?’

The Doctor transmitted a segment of the surveillance footage.

It depicted the events unfolding in the training room.

A prolonged silence ensued once more.

‘What are your thoughts?’

The Doctor adjusted his monocle.

‘This requires understanding the ghost face moth's biology!’

‘In its larval stage, the ghost face moth burrows into human hosts. Upon emerging as an adult, it establishes a permanent residence within the victim's body!’

‘They lay their eggs through bodily secretions!’

‘What that means is had that unfortunate guard not been discovered, given more time—’

‘Our Asylum C03 might have fallen completely!’

The sound of fingers tapping rhythmically on a desk came through the communicator.

‘So you suspect this incident was a premeditated attack targeting Asylum C03?’ "

The Doctor merely chuckled faintly, offering no words.

‘I understand what you mean!’

‘Then what do you believe their objective for targeting C03 is?’

The Doctor answered in a subdued tone.

‘S09—the Contaminated Creator!’

‘Their aim must be to breach C03 and subsequently transfer S09!’

"Thump! Thump! Thump! "

The sound of knuckles tapping the desk echoed again through the communicator.

The Doctor continued talking.

‘You can use the fact that the investigator is a vampire to your advantage!’

The voice on the other end replied.

‘Mm! Understood!’

‘Is there any containment subjects you require from Asylum U01?’

The Doctor replied without hesitation.

‘I require S097 - Corrupted Revolver!’

‘Ok, I will negotiate for it!’

The Doctor nodded his head and continued speaking.

‘I have another suggestion!’

‘Please speak!’

The Doctor removed his monocle and wiped it on his lab coat.

‘I wish to borrow the strength of S292 to contain certain anomalous entities!’

(TL note: Liu Guang will be changed to 'Glimmer' and Xiao Yu will be changed to 'Little Rain' to match other members codenames.)
