Chapter 36: The Flesh Engine

Lu Xiao stared with his dead-fish eyes, watching as the sharp knife stabbed towards him.

At the same time, Dante, sitting in the back seat, reacted extremely quickly. He immediately pulled out his pistol and pressed it against the driver’s head.

The sharp knife stopped just an inch from Lu Xiao’s chest.

An invisible aura radiated from Lu Xiao.

Then he said to the driver kindly,

“Don’t be afraid! I won’t eat you.”

The driver nodded woodenly.

“Where were you originally planning to take us? Take us there now.”

“No, no! I didn’t plan to take you anywhere!”

Dante interjected at this point, asking,

“Where did the humans who got in your taxi end up?”

The driver paused, then said somewhat guiltily,

“They… they were all killed by me!”

Dante had already guessed this.

Humans falling into the hands of the bizarre usually don’t end well.

“Where are their bodies?”

Dante continued asking.

The driver hesitated, glancing at Lu Xiao.

Lu Xiao snorted lightly.

“Although I’ve never eaten low-level bizarre creatures, if you dare lie, I don’t mind tasting what a low-level bizarre creature tastes like!”

These words fell on the driver’s ears, scaring him into trembling uncontrollably.

Dante took a deep drag of his cigarette.

The driver said, trembling,

“This taxi now needs flesh and blood to operate. I had no choice but to come out and hunt some humans!”

Dante glanced at Lu Xiao.

“Bro! What do you make of this thing?”

Lu Xiao pondered and said,

“Not right. There’s the smell of another bizarre creature! And that smell makes my mouth water uncontrollably!”

As he spoke, he looked at the driver.

“Where did you find this taxi?”

The driver blurted out,

“In the Prison!”

“I found this taxi in the Prison, then drove it to this world full of humans!”

Hearing this, Dante’s expression turned very grave.

“You’re saying this taxi can freely travel between the Dark Prison and the present world?”

If this taxi could perform this function, it would be terrifying.

The driver shook his head.

“No, it can’t. I accidentally drove it into the present world and then couldn’t go back!”

“This taxi only started needing flesh and blood to operate after coming to the present world. It wasn’t needed at all back in the Prison!”

Dante looked at Lu Xiao.

“Is he lying?”

Lu Xiao shook his head without speaking.

He was pondering something else.

“When I first saw this taxi, I smelled three different scents on it!”

Lu Xiao pointed at the orange taxi.

“One scent belongs to the taxi itself!”

“Besides the driver’s scent, there’s another scent that makes me want to drool!”

“That must be a High-Rank Entity of extremely high level, which also means the driver isn’t the taxi’s true owner!”

Lu Xiao analyzed calmly.

“I originally thought this driver was working for that one!”

“That’s why I said there’s still a big fish! But it seems that’s not the case now!”

Lu Xiao wasn’t  overly concerned about whether the driver was lying.

Low-level bizarre beings cannot lie before a High-Rank Entity.

This driver belonged to the very bottom tier of the bizarre.

Dante murmured,

“Bro, what should we do next?”

Lu Xiao scratched his head.

“Forget it! Let’s go back and ask the Doctor first!”

Dante nodded, then activated his communicator.

“Doctor! It’s Dante. The mission is complete.”

The Doctor’s voice came from the communicator.

“Good work, well done! Bring S292 back.”

Dante nodded, then looked at Lu Xiao.

“The Doctor wants us both to go back now.”

Suddenly, as if remembering something, he pointed at the driver.

“What should we do with this bizarre being?”

Lu Xiao pinched his chin in thought for a moment, then showed a friendly smile.

“I’ll drive this taxi back with him. You go drive that ambulance.”

Dante nodded without hesitation.

In the taxi.

“What happened to your beautiful wife later?”

The driver looked like he wanted to cry but had no tears.

“She died.”

“Didn’t you say she was as noble as a swan?”

“I was a toad.”

Lu Xiao: “...”
