Chapter 37: I got stuck at Subject Two

 Asylum C03.

Inside a containment room sat an orange taxi.

The Doctor circled the taxi several times, then looked at the driver hiding behind Lu Xiao.

“What are this vehicle’s characteristics?”

This human wearing a monocle and a white lab coat made the driver feel somewhat fearful.

Lu Xiao grabbed the driver hiding behind him.

“The Doctor is asking you a question! It’s very rude not to answer!”

The driver nodded like pounding garlic.

“Sir… I can’t really explain clearly what characteristics this car has either!”

Then, he repeated to the Doctor what he had told Lu Xiao and the others.

After listening to the entire account, the Doctor adjusted his monocle.

“Drove it out from the Dark Prison, you say?”

This information made the Doctor sense something unusual.

As the highest authority of Asylum C03, the Doctor knew very well that currently, for creatures from the Dark Prison to reach the present world, there was basically only one passage: through the ‘Gate’.

And the job of them, the Wardens, was to guard the ‘Gate’, preventing the bizarre creatures of the Dark Prison from reaching the present world.

Every asylum guarded one ‘Gate’.

An assistant nearby provided the Doctor with a set of data.

“Doctor! Over the last ten years, the number of bizarre occurrences in the present world has been increasing exponentially every year!”

He handed the tablet computer in his hand to the Doctor.

The Doctor took the tablet and studied it for a while.

The assistant explained.

“This data set was retrieved from the system.”

The Doctor returned the tablet to the assistant, then looked at Lu Xiao.

“S292, did you only recently appear near the ‘Gate’?”

Lu Xiao shook his head.

“Not at all! My range of activity in the Dark Prison was relatively fixed!”

“Before you found me, I hadn’t seen any other humans!”

“And I had never seen that glowing door either!”

The Doctor nodded, then instructed the assistant.

“Bring over a ‘expendable’!”

Soon, a ‘expendable’ wearing a yellow vest and blindfolded was escorted over by two Warden special forces soldiers.

The Doctor looked at the driver.

“How did you previously ‘feed’ this car?”

He used the word ‘feed’.

The driver looked at Lu Xiao, as if seeking his opinion.

Lu Xiao grinned.

“Do as the Doctor says.”

Hearing this, the driver hurriedly nodded, then walked to the back of the car and opened the trunk.

Lu Xiao and the Doctor followed.

Thud.

The trunk opened.

Lu Xiao’s gaze fell inside.

Apart from a ferocious, terrifying mouth, there was nothing else in the trunk.

The Doctor said calmly,

“Push the expendable in.”

The two special forces soldiers hauled the unlucky expendable over.

Blindfolded, the expendable couldn’t see anything.

But a fear from the bottom of his heart made him struggle uncontrollably.

Soon, a series of bone-chilling chewing sounds rang out.

Simultaneously, the roar of an engine erupted.

The sound wave strongly resembled that of an American big V8.

Lu Xiao pinched his chin.

“A taxi having this kind of sound wave reminds me of a very fitting description!”

“Lü Bu riding a dog!” (TL note: a mighty hero on a weak mount, meaning they are mismatched)

The driver said cautiously beside him,

“Quick, demonstrate!”

Soon, the taxi transformed into a brand-new Aima electric bike. 

On the back seat of that electric bike, a ferocious mouth continuously opened and closed.

The corner of Lu Xiao’s mouth twitched wildly.

“This is what you changed it into?”

The driver answered tremblingly,

“In my previous life, I only drove these two types of vehicles!”

“Pathetic thing! No wonder your beautiful wife stayed in contact with her ex!”

The Doctor adjusted his monocle.

“How is it operated?”

The driver answered immediately.

“Sit in the driver’s seat, mentally picture the form you want to change into. Don’t neglect the details either!”

Just then, Dante, who had been silent for a long time, suddenly rubbed his hands together.

“Everyone! I have a dream!”

“I’ve always wanted to experience the feeling of driving a luxury car!”

As he spoke, he looked at the Doctor, somewhat aggrieved.

“Doctor! Our Warden salaries are too low. I can barely afford cigarettes now!”

“Could you report this situation to the higher-ups?”

The Doctor’s temple throbbed. He looked at Dante and cursed.

“Bullshit! For so many years, the Warden salary has always been this amount!”

“Can you reconsider your own reasons?”

Dante straddled the Aima electric bike.

Moments later, the car body began to squirm slowly.

Then it transformed into a mass of flesh and blood that enveloped Dante.

Soon, that mass of flesh had swollen into a large meatball seven meters in diameter.

Then, the flesh began to take shape, first forming four wheels.

Then the car body.

Finally, the mass of flesh turned into the rudimentary form of a car.

Immediately after, a metallic sheen began to appear.

In just under two minutes.

The Aima electric bike transformed into a domineering Ford Raptor truck.

Dante gripped the steering wheel and stomped hard on the accelerator.

The engine roared furiously, and a wave of heat appeared in the room.

Dante shouted excitedly.

“Hahaha! American big V8! Screw environmentalism!” 

Lu Xiao pointed at the hysterically laughing Dante.

“See that! If you had a car like this, your beautiful wife would absolutely delete her ex’s contact info overnight!”

The driver wore an expression of having been taught a lesson.

“Doctor! Can I take it out for a spin?”

Dante shouted excitedly towards the Doctor.

The Doctor adjusted his monocle, then opened the rear door and got in.

Seeing the Doctor get in, Lu Xiao also opened the passenger door.

On the streets of Magic Metropolis.

An extremely eye-catching pickup truck stopped at a traffic light intersection.

Dante occasionally stepped on the accelerator.

Waves of engine noise caused passersby to turn their heads incessantly.

“Holy crap! What car is that? Never seen it before!”

“Such a cool pickup truck! Pickup trucks are truly a man’s romance!”

“If my husband had a car like this, why would I still keep in touch with my poor-ass ex!”

The driver sat next to the Doctor, listening to these comments from the passersby. Tears instantly streamed down his cheeks.

Dante wore an extremely exaggerated pair of sunglasses, a cigarette dangling from his mouth.

“So awesome! Simply no regrets in this life!”

Lu Xiao, watching from the side, felt his own hands itch.

“Ahem! Dr. Doctor, can I drive it?”

The Doctor’s calm voice came from the back seat.

“Drive.”

Dante, looking very reluctant, swapped seats with Lu Xiao.

The interior space was enormous, the two managed to swap seats inside the car.

“Bro! Do you have a driver’s license?”

Dante suddenly thought of a serious question and asked with some concern.

Lu Xiao thought carefully.

“Hmm! I didn’t pass the test. I think I got stuck at Subject Two.”

As he spoke, the traffic light turned green.
