Chapter 38: The Vehicle and The Driver

The Doctor reacted quickly, fastening his seatbelt just before Lu Xiao stomped on the accelerator.

Amidst the roar of the engine, the pickup truck’s front end lifted sharply before shooting forward like an arrow released from its bow.

The unprepared Dante and the driver were instantly terrified, their scalps tingling with fear.

Dante grabbed the seatbelt, fumbling desperately to buckle it.

“Bro! Holy shit! Slow down! I’m scared!”

The driver, relatively more experienced, clung desperately to the front seat, pressing his entire body against it.

The Doctor’s face was expressionless, but the veins bulging on the back of his hand gripping the handle revealed he was using every ounce of his strength.

Dante didn’t even notice the cigarette falling from his mouth as he screamed frantically.

“Stop the car! Stop the car! Ah, damn it! My pants are wet!”

Outside, two police officers witnessing this immediately gave chase.

“Uncle Wang! Whose family does this bastard belong to? Daring to race in the streets of Magic Metropolis!” the young driving cop couldn't help but complain.

In the passenger seat, Uncle Wang held a thermos cup, somewhat angrily saying,

“Is there no justice anymore?! Is there no law anymore?!”

“Street racing here! Call for backup immediately!”

In an instant, police sirens wailed continuously across the street.

Countless police cars appeared on the road.

Lu Xiao gripped the steering wheel.

“Oho! Seems like I’ve caused trouble.”

The Doctor’s voice came from the back.

“S292, pull over!”

Lu Xiao murmured, his tone grave.

“Dr. Doctor, I suddenly recall a painful experience!”

“The part I got stuck on in Subject Two was pulling over!”

Driver: “...”

On a remote, deserted road outside Magic Metropolis.

The intense roar of an engine was relentless.

A cool-looking pickup truck led the way, followed closely by a dense pack of police cars.

The sound of sirens, engine roars, and tires screeching against the pavement merged into one.

Suddenly, the leading pickup truck seemed to glitch, like a dropped frame.

The car body flickered incessantly before vanishing into thin air.

When the pickup truck reappeared, it was already inside a containment room at Asylum C03.

The doors opened.

Dante, legs trembling, supported himself on the doorframe as he slowly got out.

Next, the Doctor emerged.

Then Lu Xiao.

Finally, the driver climbed out from the driver’s seat.

The Doctor straightened the monocle on his face and said to Lu Xiao,

“You drive well! Don’t do it again.”

Lu Xiao looked utterly sincere.

“Mr. Doctor, thank you for recognizing my driving skills!”

Hearing this, the Doctor’s eye twitched.

The driver was still shaken, his pupils trembling uncontrollably.

The Doctor spoke softly to an assistant nearby.

“Log it. Designation: S302 - The Vehicle.”

“Requires flesh, blood, or anomalous energy as fuel.”

“Possesses point-to-point teleportation capability.”

“Containment condition: a suitable parking space.”

The assistant nodded, quickly recording on his tablet.

After the assistant uploaded the information, the Doctor looked at the driver.

“As for you! You are not worthy of containment! Execute on site!”

The Doctor’s voice was flat, but it plunged the driver into instant terror.

He looked at the Doctor and said,

“Sir! I... I haven’t done anything that bad!”

Lu Xiao, however, sounded puzzled.

“Didn’t you kill a lot of people?”

The driver shook his head like a rattle-drum.

“No, no, no! The ones I killed were all humans with evil hearts!”

“The reason I told the story of my beautiful wife in the car was to test their character!”

Just then, the assistant whispered in the Doctor’s ear,

“Dr. Doctor! The files on the humans missing from the taxi incident have been retrieved!”

“They were all people who committed crimes!”

The Doctor nodded, then said calmly,

“But you still killed people. According to Warden regulations, you should be classified as a Class-D containment subject.”

“However, you possess no containment value.”

He adjusted his monocle.

“Unless you can give me a reason to contain you!”

“For example, do you have any special abilities?”

His eyes held no emotion as he coldly stared at the driver.

The driver urgently looked at Lu Xiao.

Lu Xiao grinned.

“Why look at me? I’m just a containment subject too!”

As he spoke, he pulled a badge from his pants pocket and put it on.

The badge had “S292 - The Lost Human” scrawled messily on it.

Lu Xiao had made it himself in his spare time.

The materials, of course, were procured from the staff.

Seeing this, the Doctor instructed a staff member beside him,

“Note this down: S292 has developed a sense of belonging towards the Asylum.”

The assistant immediately updated Lu Xiao’s file.

The Doctor’s gaze then returned to the driver.

The driver was momentarily speechless.

“I... I... I can drive!”

“Yes! I can drive!”

As these words left his mouth, the room fell into complete silence.

The driver was on the verge of tears.

“The present world is too dangerous! I want to go back to the Dark Prison!”

Lu Xiao patted the driver’ shoulder and sighed deeply.

“It seems you are about to see your beautiful wife again.”

He even flicked his own badge, a hint of smugness on his face.

The expression seemed to say, “See? I’m with the organization!”

Dante also walked over at this moment.

“Sigh! Brother, promise me, if you see your beautiful wife again, don’t be a simp anymore!”

The driver’s tears instantly streamed down his face.

He swore he hadn’t cried this decisively even when his beautiful wife left him.

Just then, the Doctor’s voice came.

“Congratulations, Mr. Driver. Your ability has made you valuable.”

“Log it. Designation: S303 - The Driver.”

“Containment Level D... Never mind, make it S.”

“As for the containment conditions...”

The Doctor adjusted his monocle and looked at the driver.

“Mr. Driver, do you have any conditions?”

Hearing this, the driver shook his head frantically.

How dare he have any conditions at this point?

The Doctor nodded.

“Handle the rest as you see fit.”

After saying this, he turned and left the containment room.

The assistant quickly recorded.
