Chapter 43: The Vote

A rare smile appeared on the Doctor’s face.

“Councilman, although I have no evidence to refute the video provided by Mr. Adam, I seriously doubt the authenticity of Mr. Adam’s video!”

“If I show you all a live stream, you will understand!”

The image on the light screen before everyone changed.

It was replaced by a live feed from inside a containment room.

In the footage, a handsome young man was busy, his head bowed down.

He held a badge in his hand, scribbling something on it in crooked characters.

The camera zoomed in at this moment.

On the badge, the youth had written ‘S069 - Prison Doctor’ in messy script.

Then he picked up the badge and walked out of his containment room.

He politely reached out and pressed the doorbell.

The door opened, and the prison doctor came out to greet him.

The councilman looked at the Doctor.

“Councilman, I have finished presenting my evidence.”

The councilman nodded, then looked at Adam.

“Mr. Adam, may we begin the vote now?”

“As for the potential containment breach issue at C03, we will form an investigation team and initiate an investigation procedure!”

Adam raised his hand.

“Councilman, we may begin the vote now!”

Simultaneously, two options appeared on everyone’s light screen.

One was ‘Approve’, the other was ‘Reject’.

The voting time was five minutes.

Not voting within five minutes was considered an abstention.

The voting data updated in real-time.

Soon, the ‘Approve’ votes were close to forty percent.

The Chief’s tone carried some weight.

“Adam’s move made most of those who would have abstained choose to Approve.”

“The outcome of this vote might be hard to predict now.”

The Director’s expression also turned grave.

The Doctor casually selected ‘Reject’ and said indifferently,

“I’ve done all I can. It’s up to that one to handle the aftermath.”

Two minutes later, the ‘Approve’ and ‘Reject’ votes were equal.

The final group who hadn’t voted were still watching.

Some among them might abstain, but most were hesitating.

They didn’t care who held S09, as it wouldn’t fall into their hands anyway.

They only cared about the benefits they could get.

Now it depended on which side could promise more advantages.

In these final minutes, someone would privately make offers to them.

In the Round Table Meeting, issues decided by vote could not be raised again for ten years.

Therefore, the result of this vote determined S09’s ownership for the next decade.

Soon, those who hadn’t voted received personal messages from Adam.

Instantly, the ‘Approve’ votes soared.

They quickly surpassed the ‘Reject’ votes.

Clearly, Adam had promised them astonishing benefits.

The councilman announced the result.

“The motion passes! Please arrange the handover matters as soon as possible, Asylum C03!”

Hearing this result, the Chief and the Director were incredulous.

Even the Doctor’s eyebrows were tightly knit together.

“Very regrettable. The leaders’ eyes are all sharp and discerning. Wouldn’t you agree, Dr. Doctor?”

Adam’s brazen voice came through.

“Bullshit! Won’t those fools use their pig brains to think properly?”

“After checking, I’ll shove their heads up their asses!”

The Doctor’s voice lost its usual composure.

The last time he swore was during Lu Xiao’s containment.

The Chief’s voice was heavy.

“Did that one not intervene?”

Hearing this, the Doctor’s gaze immediately fell on a middle-aged man in a black suit seated in the Supreme Office section.

At that moment, the man had one hand on the table, his index finger tapping the surface lightly.

Adam stood up and bowed slightly towards the councilman.

“Thank you, Councilman!”
